Old and new fishermen / fisherwomen enjoy bonefishing. Why? They are an extremely stealth fish that are coy and fast. They are challenging to catch, and have a pull that is unusually intense for their size.
Bonefish like warm waters; because of that, they are generally found in more tropical climates and love the waters of Exuma. They are often found in more shallow waters. Here in Exuma, they have some special spots they like to school.
As far as I know, there are 8 confirmed types of bonefish, although some say there are u p to 10.
Bonefish are edible, although they are cumbersome to prepare. Around the world, they are eaten either raw, filleted and butterflied, or cooked whole, with larger bones removed and smaller bones left in.
Here in Exuma, we do NOT typically eat them; they are catch and release. Why? They are game fish, and people come from all over for the sport of catching them. We catch them for fun, and release them to ensure this sport is sustainable.
I know where they typically run, and I have to boats to get you there. Want to try on a regular line? I can help you with that. Want to try on a fly rod? We can do that, too. That's why I'm called "Bonefish Olie," Contact me and we'll get you "hooked up!"
