About Bonefishing

The hard-pulling bonefish

Why is Bonefishing popular?

Old and new fishermen / fisherwomen enjoy bonefishing.  Why?  They are an extremely stealth fish that are coy and fast.  They are challenging to catch, and have a pull that is unusually intense for their size.

Where are they located?

Bonefish like warm waters; because of that, they are generally found in more tropical climates and love the waters of Exuma.  They are often found in more shallow waters.  Here in Exuma, they have some special spots they like to school.

Are there different types of bonefish?

As far as I know, there are 8 confirmed types of bonefish, although some say there are u p to 10.

Can you eat Bonefish?

Bonefish are edible, although they are cumbersome to prepare.  Around the world, they are eaten either raw, filleted and butterflied, or cooked whole, with larger bones removed and smaller bones left in.

Here in Exuma, we do NOT typically eat them; they are catch and release.  Why?  They are game fish, and people come from all over for the sport of catching them.  We catch them for fun, and release them to ensure this sport is sustainable.

Why hire me for bonefishing?

I know where they typically run, and I have two different Bahama-style boats to get you there, depending on the size of your group.  Want to try on a regular line?  I can help you with that.  Want to try on a fly rod?  We can do that, too. (Weather dependent.) That's why I'm called "Bonefish  Olie,"  Contact me and we'll get you "hooked up!"
